Honda on Thursday announced that their 2016 Accord will be the first Honda vehicle to offer support for CarPlay, Apple’s iPhone-powered infotainment platform.
As reported by Re/code, Honda unveiled the 2016 Accord at its research center in Mountain View, Calif. in front of gathered mainstream and tech press. The automaker chose the venue as a nod to Silicon Valley’s impact on the automotive industry, the publication said.
The Accord will offer support for both CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto platform. The vehicle’s own infotainment system runs a modified version of Android. CarPlay will come standard on 2016 Accord EX, EX-L and Touring models.
Honda was one of the first auto manufacturers to jump onboard when Apple officially announced CarPlay in March 2014. Honda joins a number of other auto makers announcing CarPlay features for their 2016 model year. General Motors in June announced its GM, Buick, Cadillac, and Chevy lineups would offer support in some models. The first Chevy to support CarPlay, a Corvette Z06, recently rolled off of the assembly line in Bowling Green, KY.
