Apple’s Tim Cook named to Six Year Term on Duke University’s Board of Trustees

Duke University has named Apple CEO Tim Cook as one of its eight new board of trustee members. Cook earned his MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business in 1988. Cook began serving his six-year term on July 1, and will work with the governing body to determine the university’s educational mission and fiscal policies. The naming of Cook and seven other people to the Board bring it to a total of 37 members.

The other new trustees are The Coca-Cola Foundation chairwoman Lisa Borders, PRM Advisors founder Patricia Morton, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and ValueAct Capital CEO Jeff Ubben. Duke University also appointed three observing members on the board, including Elastic Fabrics of America marketing executive and Duke alum Jack Boyd, recent Duke graduate Anna Knight and Duke JD/MBA candidate Ben Shellhorn.

Cook has made a number of appearances at Duke during his reign at Apple, returning to the school in 2013 for his 25th reunion, where he participated in an hour-long discussion with Fuqua School of Business Dean Bill Boulding and students about Apple’s success, ethical leadership, career planning, collaboration, and more.

Cook has also made appearances at Duke University athletic events, most recently when the school’s men’s basketball team won the NCAA Final Four championship against Wisconsin in April.
