T-Mobile has edited the text of the fine print of its 4G LTE Simple Choice plans to notify customers that there is a 21GB soft cap on their data usage, reports TmoNews.
Customers who exceed 21 GB of data usage during a billing period will see their data speeds throttled during periods of high network demand.
Visitors to the individual plans or family plans page on T-Mobile’s website will see the following text added at the bottom of the page:
“*Unlimited 4G LTE customers who use more than 21 GB of data in a bill cycle will have their data usage de-prioritized compared to other customers for that bill cycle at locations and times when competing network demands occur, resulting in relatively slower speeds.”
Prior to the setting of the 21GB soft cap, Simple Choice subscribers who used more data than 97% of all other T-Mobile subscribers would see slower speeds during times of heavy network congestion.
While the 97% number was a bit ambiguous, customers who are “heavy users” now know exactly how much 4G LTE data they can use before they are throttled. 21GB of data is a huge amount of mobile data usage, and the cap is likely to affect a tiny percentage of T-Mobile’s subscribers.
