iOS 8.4 will make its public debut at 8AM Pacific time on Tuesday. The Beats 1 streaming radio station will kick off its broadcasting schedule one hour later at 9AM Pacific.
Former Beats Music CEO and current Apple Music senior director Ian Rogers made a brief blog post yesterday summarizing some of his background in music leading up to this week’s debut of Apple Music while also revealing Apple’s launch schedule for iOS 8.4 and the new Beats 1 radio station.
Roger’s blog post indicates iOS 8.4 will go live at 8Am Pacific on Tuesday, which is two hours earlier than Apple normally releases operating system updates. The early release time is due to the 9AM Pacific debut of the Beats 1 radio station via Apple Music.
Beats 1 is a 24/7 streaming music station led by three DJs, and featuring a mix of music, interviews, and other music related content. Beats 1 will also feature programming blocks hosted by music celebrities such as Dr. Dre, Pharrell, and Elton John.
While Beats 1 is free to all users who are signed in with an Apple ID, Apple Music will also offer a paid streaming component priced at $9.99 for a single subscription, or $14.99 for a family subscription with up to six members. Apple is offering a free three-month trial of the Apple Music service to entice listeners into staying signed on for the paid service.
Apple SVP Eddy Cue has tweeted a few tidbits about the new music service, explaining how Apple Music, and the established iTunes Match service will work together. Apple Music has the same uploading and matching abilities as Match, says Cue, initially having the same 25,000 song limit as Match, increasing to 100,000 with the public debut of iOS 9:
