General Motors continues to rollout Apple’s CarPlay across its vehicle lineups, as today it has announced that select 2016 models of Buick and GMC vehicles will support both CarPlay and Android Auto via GM’s IntelliLink System.
CarPlay models include the 2016 Buick Regal and LaCrosse models, and 2016 GMC Canyon, Yukon and Sierra vehicles. Buick and GMC will support CarPlay at the beginning of the model year and will add Android Auto compatibility to select vehicles sometime later in the model year.
CarPlay connects an iPhone through Buick’s IntelliLink system, allowing control of applications such as navigation, hands-free text messaging, contact lists and entertainment apps for news or music via the eight-inch-diagonal IntelliLink infotainment display.
General Motors announced in late May that its Chevrolet division would begin offering CarPlay capabilities to 14 of its vehicle models in the 2016 model year.
The first CarPlay-enabled Chevrolet vehicle rolled off the assembly line. The car, a 650HP silver Corvette Z06, rolled off the production line at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky earlier this week.
GM’s luxury car division Cadillac announced earlier this month that it will offer both CarPlay and Android Auto support in its 2016 model year vehicles. The new models will begin rolling off the assembly line this summer.
