As first noticed by 9to5Mac, Apple has pulled the original iPad mini from its online store. It has also removed all other references to its original smaller iPad.
The iPad mini first debuted in October 2012, sporting a smaller 7.9-inch screen. The tablet has since been succeeded by the iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3. Both of those models are still available.
Apple had discounted the first-generation A5 powered tablet twice in recent years, first to $299 in October 2013, and then to $249 in October 2014, but when compared to the iPad mini 2, which boasted better specs and started at $299, the original device faced a hard sell.
The mini remains available at some third-party resellers, although they will likely disappear as the stock is sold out. The original remains available in the refurbished area of the Apple Online Store for $209 to $409, depending on the model and storage capacity.
