Apple Music Listeners to Miss Out on Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Album

Apple Music listeners who are also Taylor Swift fans will have to listen elsewhere for their “1989” album fix, as both Apple and Taylor Swift’s label Big Machine Records confirmed that “1989” will not be available on the service, or on any other services in the near future.

9to5Mac:

Swift’s back catalog, however, will be available on Apple Music, similar to what is currently available on Beats and Tidal. The artist infamously pulled all of her content from rival service Spotify last year, saying that the service’s free tier devalued music and noting that music should be consumed as albums.

Apple will not be streaming the entire iTunes library via their new streaming service – most notably, anything from The Beatles – and now Swift’s “1989” joins the list.

Swift has had a reasonably good relationship with Apple in the past, as she made her “1989” bonus tracks available on iTunes, after an exclusivity deal with Target ran its course, but recent moves by Swift indicates she’s still feeling her way through the streaming services wilderness.

In November, the singer yanked her entire library from Spotify as a protest against the company’s free-to-stream offering. So far we haven’t heard if they are “never, ever, getting back together.”
