Apple has taken the top spot in the 2015 Greenpeace Clean Energy Index, included as part of its 2015 Click Clean Report [PDF]. The Cupertino firm took top honors in the index due to its commitment to running its global operations strictly on renewable energy when possible.
Apple topped Amazon, Facebook, Google, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Yahoo and other large companies in the 2015 report. Apple’s 100% renewable powered cloud took top honors, followed by Yahoo, Facebook and Google with 73%, 49% and 46% clean energy respectively.
MacRumors notes that Greenpeace’s annual report is based on energy transparency, renewable energy commitment and policy, energy efficiency and mitigation, and renewable energy deployment and advocacy. Apple was the only company to receive a perfect score, gaining an “A” across all categories, the highest score awarded.
Greenpeace, who has evaluated the energy demand of the Internet and Internet-related companies since 2010, was initially critical of Apple’s environmental record for years, but finally began recognizing the company’s efforts beginning last year.
