Amazon Prime members will soon be able to stream the service’s video and audio offering for free while flying on JetBlue airplanes.
For passengers on most JetBlue flights, Amazon Prime members can stream tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes from Amazon Prime Video, including such original Amazon series as Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle, at no additional cost. Passengers who aren’t Prime members will be able to buy or rent content that they can watch at 35,000 feet.
Prime members will also have access to more than one million songs from the Prime Music library.
JetBlue will make use of their “Fly-Fi satellite” broadband technology to stream the Amazon Prime content off the Internet. This will allow passengers to access Amazon’s full catalog of titles while in flight.
Members will be able to view the Amazon Prime content on their own smartphones, laptops, and tablets, as well as on JetBlue’s seatback television sets.
They Fly-Fi service is available free to all passengers, deliver speeds of up to 12 to 20 Mbps. Some activities that use a large amount of bandwidth, such as downloads or viewing video, will carry a fee, however Amazon’s content will be available under the freeplan.
The Amazon content will be available on all JetBlue’s Fly-Fi equipped Airbus A321 and A320 aircraft this year, and on JetBlue’s Embraer E190 aircraft in 2016.
