iPad Holds Its Lead in Slowing Q1 2015 Tablet Market

MacRumors:

Apple continues to be the largest vendor in a declining tablet market, shipping 12.6 million iPads in the first quarter of 2015 to capture a 26.8% share of the global tablet market. Apple maintained the top position despite facing a 22.9% decline in tablet shipments compared to the year-ago quarter.

Samsung took second place with 9 million tablet shipments in the first quarter, grabbing a 19.1% share of the pie, a16.5% year-over-year decline. Lenovo, Asus, and LG Electronics completed the top five, with 2.5 million,  1.8 million, and 1.4 million global tablet shipments in the first quarter respectively.

Tablet makers are seeing the tablet market continue to shrink, as the iPad has suffered a decline in its annual growth for five consecutive quarters, as other tablet makers are seeing similar declines. The introduction of larger screened phones, such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and the lack of major updates to tablets such as the iPad, are believed to have contributed to the declining market.
