Apple Watch Battery Good for 1,000 Complete Charge Cycles

If you’ve been wondering how long the battery inside an Apple Watch will last, Apple has the answer for you. If you’ve been wondering how many licks it takes to reach the center of a Tootsie Pop, ask old Mr. Owl.

The company notes the battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity for at least 1,000 complete charge cycles. That number pegs the lifespan of the Apple Watch battery at around two and a half to three years if you charge the battery once a day.

For comparison, the iPad and MacBook batteries can both also retain around 80% of their original capacity for 1,000 complete charge cycles, iPhones are good for around 500 complete cycles, and iPods are good for around 400 complete charge cycles.

As always, your mileage may vary.

A recent teardown of the Apple Watch by iFixit showed the Watch is powered by a 205 mAh battery, which lasts up to 18 hours of mixed usage, or 72 hours in Power Reserve mode.

Apple covers the battery under its 1 year limited warranty for the Apple Watch, while out of warranty repairs will run users $79, plus a $6.95 shipping charge, if needed.
