Apple to Award up to 350 WWDC 2015 Scholarships in Bid to Increase Diversity

Apple will award up to 350 scholarships to their Worldwide Developers Conference this year. The increase in scholarships, up from 200 in past years, will benefit students and developers belonging to select STEM organizations that promote diversity.

MacRumors:

The company previously limited WWDC scholarships to 200 students and developers at past conferences, and is raising that limit in an effort to promote diversity within the developer community.

WWDC scholarships are available to students 13-17 years of age, who are members of participating organizations that promote science, technology, engineering and math education for young women and other ethnic groups. Those selected are awarded with a free WWDC ticket, worth $1,599. However, travel and other expenses for the trip are the responsibility of the student.

Those wishing to apply for WWDC 2015 scholarships must build and submit a Mac or iOS app, written in Objective-C and Swift, or written entirely in Swift. Candidates will also need to include proof of enrollment from their school or proof of membership from a STEM organization.

Scholarship submissions can be made April 22 at 10:00AM PDT through April 26 at 5:00PM PDT. All applicants will be notified about their selection status by May 8.
