During Monday’s Q2 2015 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared some information about the company’s App Store. The App Store had its best quarter ever, showing 29 percent growth year-over-year.
Apple’s Services category, which is made up of the App Store, Mac App Store, iTunes, iBooks, AppleCare, Apple Pay, licensing and other services brought in a record revenue of $5 billion for the quarter, a 9 percent year-over-year increase.
Most of the growth for the March Quarter resulted from the App Store, which, according to Apple CFO Luca Maestri, brought in 70 percent more revenue than Google Play.
Cook also touched on HealthKit and apps for the Apple Watch during the call. Cook mentioned that HealthKit-based apps, part of Apple’s health and fitness initiative, have been highly successful, with 1,000 HealthKit-based apps available in the App Store.
As for Apple Watch apps, Cook noted there are currently 3,500 Apple Watch apps available for download, saying Apple “can’t wait to see more inspiring apps” for the Apple Watch.
