Apple CEO Tim Cook called into CNBC’s “Mad Money” on Thursday, and spoke to host Jim Cramer about topics ranging from Health and ResearchKit, to Apple Pay, to what the next frontier is for Apple.
When asked what he believes the “next frontiers” will be when it comes to product development, Tim Cook highlighted health as “the biggest one of all,” along with cars and the home.
Cook told Cramer that devices like the Apple Watch, and services such as the Health app and ResearchKit framework, that allow users to track their own health and fitness stats, are part of a market that’s “probably significantly underestimated.”
Cook said ResearchKit is “an absolute game changer.” The open source framework debuted at Apple’s media event last Monday, and several apps created with it are already available. Stanford University researchers reported over 11,000 signups in the first day of availability for their “My Heart Counts” app.
Cook, when asked by Cramer if he believed the Apple Watch being able to monitor diabetes, blood pressure, and detect cancer was “within the realm of our lifetime,” Cook replied “Oh, I absolutely do.”
Cook also spoke about Steve Jobs, and how Jobs’ DNA is still “deep in the company,” although many of today’s Apple products were conceived after Jobs’ death.
