Over 25% of Visits to U.S. Government Websites Are Via Apple Devices

More than 25% of all visits to U.S. government websites in the last 90 days have come via an Apple computer or mobile device. The figures illustrate how Apple continues to become more of a mainstream company than ever before.

AppleInsider:

Nearly 17 percent of the 1.36 billion visits over that period were logged on iPhones or iPads, while 9 percent were on a Mac. Safari was the third-most popular browser, scoring a 20 percent share.

Microsoft’s Windows platform continues to deliver the majority of web traffic to the government websites, with 58% of all visits coming via that platform. Android delivered 14% of all visits, and Chrome was the most popular browser, followed by Internet Explorer.

The above numbers come via the Digital Analytics Program, which provides unified analytics data to more than 300 government websites, including those run by the IRS, NASA, and the White House.

Apple’s increase in the government’s website traffic may seem like a minor victory for the folks in Cupertino, but considering the Apple’s marketshare sat at a mere 6.1% in 2006, (this was pre-iPhone), Apple’s 26% share of all government site traffic is impressive.

What’s even more impressive is that iOS is the second-most used platform, underlining the shift from the desktop to mobile devices.
