French technology website 01net[Google Translate] reports Google is preparing to release an Android Wear app for the iPhone and iPad.
The report claims Android Wear with extended iOS support could be announced at Google’s I/O developer conference in late May, although Google may push the agenda depending on sales of the Apple Watch.
iOS support for Android Wear devices would help Google capitalize on iOS users who may not be interested in the upcoming Apple Watch, and are looking at other smartwatch options.
A video of an iPhone paired with an Android Wear watch and sending notifications to the device, has garnered over 300,000 views on YouTube.
Currently, Android Wear smartwatches – such as the Moto 360, or the Samsung Gear Live – are limited to use with smartphones running Android 4.3 or later.
