We reported last week that we expect Pebble to debut its next-generation of smartwatches this week. The new wearable is expected to boast a thinner design, and a color display. Now, thanks to an image posted on Pebble’s own servers, we get a peek at the new watch.
The device looks to have a larger bezel, as well as buttons that are smaller compared to its predecessor.
The new Pebble, although it will boast a color display, is expected to have battery life that compared to the current generation of the watch, lasting days on a single charge. The next-generation model will also reportedly come equipped with a Cortex M4 processor, and a 6-axis gyroscope. It is not expected to include a touchscreen, and the screen resolution should still come in lower than the Apple Watch’s screen.
It’s hard to tell from the screenshot just how many colors the new Pebble’s screen will support.
The new hardware will run a new version of the Pebble operating system, said to be redesigned form the ground up, by the team that designed webOS.
We’ve found a new framework to use as an interaction model on the watch,” boasted Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky earlier this year. He noted that while apps will continue to exist on Pebble, they won’t be the main focus of the platform. “It doesn’t look like what we have today, and it doesn’t look like what’s on your smartphone,” added Migicovsky.
