The NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers have joined numerous other sports teams who are sending out location-aware notifications to their iPhone-using fans via Apple’s iBeacon Bluetooth technology.
The team announced today that the notifications (pictured above) will be sent to fans through the official Cleveland Cavaliers app. YinzCam, Inc develops the app and is using Gimbal Bluetooth beacon hardware at the Cav’s Quicken Loans Arena to get the job done.
The team will be sending out reminders, promos, and video content to fans via the app.
The opt-in notifications will include the following:
Major League Baseball was one of the first sports organizations to adopt iBoeacon technology for use in their ballparks, sending location specific information to their fans. The Golden State Warriors became the first NBA team to use the devices, and have since been followed by several others.
The Cleveland Cavaliers app is available FREE for the iPhone in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]
