Apple Allowing Marijuana-Centric Apps in 23 States Where it is Legal

In a reversal that should make Cheech and Chong smile, Apple is once more allowing marijuana-centric apps in the App Store. MassRoots, a marijuana-centric social app has returned to the App Store. The app was removed from the App Store late last year.

9to5Mac:

According to App Store guideline 2.18:

Apps that encourage excessive consumption of alcohol or illegal substances, or encourage minors to consume alcohol or smoke cigarettes, will be rejected.

MassRoots announced today that Apple has agreed to allow their app back in the App Store, but only under the condition that it is restricted to users located in one of 23 states where either medical or recreational marijuana use is legal.

The safeguard is intended to prevent the app from violating App Store rule 2.18, as seen above. The company says that it intends to put even more safeguards in place to ensure its compliance with the rule.

“We do not take this task lightly. Over the coming weeks, we will be implementing new features to strengthen our compliance even beyond what is currently required.”

While MacTrast was able to download the MassRoots app, the app wouldn’t allow us to create an account as we live in a state where medical or recreational use of Marijuana is not yet legal. (RATS! – Ed.)

MassRoots is available FREE for the iPhone in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]
