In the past, we’ve shared how you can use your PS3, PS4, or even your Xbox 360 controller to play games on your Mac. Now we’ve finally found a way to use your Xbox One controller to play those same games.
Guilherme Araújo has come up with an app that allows you to use your shiny Xbox One controller with your Mac, and he’s posted the source code, and even a compiled version of the app on GitHub for your enjoyment.
The application communicates with the Xbox One Controller, and uses a Virtual Joystick to simulate the controller.
Araújo says the USB communication is done using Apple’s IOKit framework, and the controller is polled every 5ms looking for changes in the controller.
He warns that the app is in the beta stages, so there are bound to be games that won’t work correctly with the controller. Just let him know about issues you run into. He’s concentrating on usability and compatibility for now. Additional controllers, automatic connection, bells and whistles will come later.
Visit the Xbox One Controller Enabler page for more information, and to download the source code and/or the compiled app. [DIRECT LINK]
Note: We don’t have an Xbox One controller in the MacTrast offices, so we haven’t had a chance to try this app out. As always, this is beta software, and it’s up to you to decide whether to try this out or not. If you’re the bold type and you go for it, let us know who well it works for you in the comments section below.
