Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Apple has honored the fallen civil rights leader by dedicating the homepage of their apple.com website to him.
“Today we reflect on the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work that continues in service of the broader concerns of humanity,” reads the text laid over a black-and-white image of Dr. King delivering his historic “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C.
Apple CEO Tim Cook – who has previously noted that Dr, King is one of his personal heroes, and is responsible for his own personal passionate views for human rights and equality – tweeted the following on Twitter:
Honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. #MLK Apple http://t.co/ngqL0bym8y

Apple rarely modifies their homepage to honor public figures, saving the honor for those who have made an exceptional mark on history. Dr. King is the third figure from Black history that Apple has honored in such a way, joining civil rights activist Rosa Parks and South African President Nelson Mandela.
The third Monday in January was designated as Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983 to honor Dr. King’s birthday, which is January 15th.
