Apple Global Payments Executive Jumps Ship to eBay

Online auction giant eBay looks to be preparing for life after PayPal, as it has hired former Apple global payments executive Bora Chung for a spot in its new Marketplace division.

AppleInsider:

According to SFGate, Chung was hired on to eBay’s new Marketplace division by another former Apple executive, e-commerce boss R.J. Pittman. The move is thought to be related to an impending payments service set to launch once PayPal is spun off from the Internet auction giant later this year.

Chung’s LinkedIn profile says she was head of worldwide payments and financing for the Online Apple Store. The profile still lists Apple as her current employer. Prior to her stint at Apple, Ching worked for PayPal from 2007 to 2011, first as senior director of global platform operations, then becoming senior director of branded payments.

While her official duties and title at eBay have not been announced, Chung will likely be working under Pittman, who led Apple’s e-commerce programs. Apple began the “Personal Pickup” program under Pittman’s leadership. He left Apple on good terms in 2013.

While details of eBay’s PayPal replacement have not been revealed, rumors so far indicate it will be a online solution designed to compete with Apple Pay and other electronic payments services.
