The 2TB Fusion Drive Makes a Quiet Return to the Mac mini

The 2TB Fusion Drive made a quiet return to availability for the late 2014 Mac mini during the Christmas Holidays. The 2TB option is once more available for an extra $100 over the 1TB Fusion Drive option.

It appears Apple has listened to feedback, and now users can, once again, buy a Mac mini with 2TB of storage. According to our digging into web archives, the 2TB option returned for the priciest Mac mini model in mid-December, right around the Christmas holidays.

The 2TB Fusion Drive option requires the Mac mini to be built to order. The option had disappeared following the launch of the latest models.

The Mac mini was updated last fall, and was not well received, due to the inclusion of soldered RAM and lack of a quad-core processor options for the new versions. (A 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 is the high-end option for the mini.)

Apple’s Mac mini is available from Apple’s online store, starting at $499. A high-end 3.0GHz i7 option with a custom 2TB Fusion Drive and 16GB of RAM runs $1,499.
