U.S. Will Do Its Best to Protect NORAD’s Santa Tracker

We’ve already shared how you and your kids can follow Santa’s around the world trip tonight via theNorth American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Santa Tracker, and now the United States government says it’s well-prepared to protect the Santa Tracker system from any cyber attacks by hackers.

WSJ:

Maj. Beth Smith, a NORAD spokeswoman, said this week the command’s cyber defenses are prepared to handle any potential attack, including any from North Korea.

“We are confident the system will work,” Maj. Smith said.

WHEW! I don’t know about you, but that’s a load off of MY mind!

During the final scheduled Pentagon news conference for 2014, Rear Adm. John Kirby said NORAD had put in place special protection for the system.

“Their anti-Grinch firewall is up and monitoring for threats, and they are confident that the AGFW, anti-Grinch firewall, can defeat any malicious attacks,” said Adm. Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary.

NORAD has tracked Santa Claus’s Christmas Eve journey for over 50 years. However, this year’s run comes at a time of heightened tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. The U.S. has accused North Korea of being behind a cyber attack on Sony Pictures, likely due to the company’s new film, “The Interview.”
