Apple CEO Tim Cook and (RED) leader Deborah Dugan dropped in for an impromptu visit at the Washington D.C. Apple Store in Georgetown on Monday to show support for World AIDS Day. The global event was created to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS.
Cook posted to Twitter a pair of photos from the impromptu meet-up, explaining that Apple Stores “around the world are RED today for #WorldAIDSDay.” Apple’s retail outlets changed the color of their iconic logos red on Monday, while employees donned like-colored shirts for the occasion.
Dugan also tweeted, thanking Apple for its continuing fundraising efforts on behalf of the global fund to stop the spread of AIDS in Africa. Apple has raised over $75 million so far for the effort, including a Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotion in its stores and online, as well as a (RED) promotion currently underway in its App Store.
Apple has long participated in the PROJECT(RED) initiative, ever since 2006, when the company first sold special (RED)-branded iPods. The company has since expanded the effort to other products and accessories.
