Re/code reports that Apple’s United States and United Kingdom online stores now accept PayPal as payment for items purchased in the store. While PayPal has been a payment option in the iTunes and App Stores, this is the first time it is accepted for purchases from Apple.com.
Payments with PayPal can be made as of today from the online Apple Store by choosing the PayPal option when checking out. PayPal is not yet offered as a payment method in the Apple Store app, and it is unclear if it will be added in the future.
Apple is also promoting PayPal Credit payment methods, allowing online shoppers to pay for Apple products over $250 with monthly payments over 18 months with no interest.
Apple and PayPal have not always worked so well together. During the September iCloud celebrity account hacking scandals, PayPal ran ads attacking Apple’s security methods, and by proxy, Apple’s Apple Pay payments system.
While Apple and PayPal were initially in talks to partner on Apple Pay, those talks broke down when PayPal made a deal with Samsung to authorize PayPal payments via the Samsung Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor.
