Amazon has announced the kickoff of their new Prime Now delivery service. The new service, launching today in select areas of Manhattan, promises one hour delivery of “daily essentials.” The company plans to offer Prime Now to more cities in 2015.
“Prime Now is powered by Amazon’s growing network of fulfillment centers that utilize high-end technology to speed up order delivery times for customers. Now, Prime members can get products like paper towels, shampoo, books, toys and batteries delivered right to their door in an hour or less.”
Items can be delivered to Amazon Prime member’s homes in one hour for $7.99. Two-hour delivery is free. The service is available from 6 AM to midnight, seven days a week, Amazon’s new Manhattan facility will act as the delivery hub for the service.
“There are times when you can’t make it to the store and other times when you simply don’t want to go. There are so many reasons to skip the trip and now Prime members in Manhattan can get the items they need delivered in an hour or less,” said Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations. “We’ve long felt that Amazon Prime is the best deal in the history of shopping and now it has gotten even better. Prime members in Manhattan are going to love this service and we cannot wait to roll out Prime Now to additional cities in 2015.”
Amazon hasn’t announced which cities will receive Prime Now in 2015, however it says it will notify users via the Prime app when it arrives in their metropolitan area. You can get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime through this link.
As for me, I believe I’ll hold out for the “Amazon Future” delivery service, where they know what you want before you do, and just go ahead and deliver it before you order it.
