If you’d like to get your hands on a new iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3, but just don’t have the cash to put down up front, Sprint may have just the deal you’re looking for. The wireless company is offering ‘iPad for Life’ leases, with iPad Air 2 lease payments starting at $20 per month.
Sprint describes the lease as an “industry-first.” The lease runs for 24-months, and requires no upfront costs, such as a down payment.
Sprint launched a similar “iPhone for Life” lease plan when Apple debuted the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September. That plan also begins at $20 per month for base model iPhones.
Lease payments for a 16GB iPad mini 3 are $17 per month, with a 64GB iPad mini 3 going for $21 per month, and a 128GB model will cost you $25 per month.
A 16GB iPad Air 2 will run you $20 per month, a 64GB iPad Air 2 $24 per month, and a 128GB model is $28 per month.
At the end of the 24-month lease, customers will have the opportunity to either turn in the leased device and then lease a newer model for $0 down, or they can continue to lease the iPad on a month-to-month basis, purchase the device, or return the device and walk away.
Customers can add the iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 to their Sprint Family Share Pack for an access charge of $10 per month per line. Through December 2015, Sprint will waive the $10 monthly access charge on iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 added as a new line of service to any Sprint Family Share Pack 20GB or higher.
iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 can also be activated on one of the Sprint tablet data plans, including a special limited-time offer featuring 100MB of data for $10; other tablet data plans include 1GB for $15; 3GB for $35; 6GB for $50; 12GB for $80; and 30GB for $110 (all pricing excludes taxes and surcharges).
While such a lease plan isn’t for everyone, it may be something user might want to take a look at, especially if they enjoy upgrading their iPad every few years or so.
