Forget all of that Apple Pay news, here’s what our readers have really been waiting for… Taco Bell has released a long-awaited update to its iPhone app to allow customers to order their food ahead of time, and then pick it up via the drive-thru or inside the restaurant.
After several months of planning, the company becomes the first to offer mobile ordering at this scale and with two pickup options. Other huge chains including McDonald’s have conducted pilot tests for smartphone orders and are likely to follow suit before long. Taco Bell is emphasizing that mobile customers will have access to every single ingredient on its menu, and the company even plans to offer some food items exclusively via the app.
“You’ll be able to order products that no one else can,” Tressie Lieberman, senior director of digital marketing and platforms at Taco Bell, told USA Today. (Here’s hoping this means a comeback for the late, lamented Bell Beefer… – Ed.)
If you already have the Taco Bell app installed on your device, expect it to update with mobile ordering capabilities very soon. No word on whether the app will also allow pre-ordering of Pepto-Bismol.
“You asked. We answered. You can now order Taco Bell on your phone and skip the line inside the restaurant. Plus, find out about new items and get exclusive offers. You can thank us later… and you will.”
