Shortly following an early reveal via the iOS and Mac App Stores, Microsoft has officially revealed its $199 Microsoft Band fitness wearable. The company revealed the device to Re/code, and said the device goes on sale Thursday in Microsoft’s online and retail stores.
The Microsoft Band includes 10 sensors that track such health information as heart rate, galvanic skin response to measure stress, and even a UV sensor to measure sun exposure. The device is connected via Bluetooth to a user’s mobile device, and as such can receive notifications from the device.
Microsoft is launching a cloud based health service called Microsoft Health to work with the device. The service will collect data from the Band, and other fitness devices. The service is available to iOS, Android, and Windows Phone users, as well as accessible via the web. The Windows Phone app integrates Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant.
“Microsoft Health can also measure your work life and can, for example, determine how a long meeting with the boss might have affected your night’s sleep. Other features include access to Facebook and Twitter, as well as weather and stocks.”
The Microsoft Band was revealed earlier this week, via an early posting of the Microsoft apps that will work with the device in both the iOS and Mac App Stores.
The Microsoft Band goes on sale Thursday for $199.
