Apple’s new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 have hit Apple retail stores with a whimper, not a bang. The new tablets are now available for in-store pickup at a limited number of Apple stores that have received shipments. In-store availability seems to be limited to W-Fi only devices at this time.
Availability seems to be hit-or-miss currently, with many stores on the East Coast showing “available today,” while some Southern California locations are showing “Ships to store.” MacTrast also checked the Nashville, TN area and the Indianapolis, IN areas. All Nashville locations showed available, while Indy was ships to store, yet the Cincinnati store, which shows up in the Indy search, shows available.
You may also want to contact your local store, as some employees are reportedly unaware the new stock is arriving in their store.
The iPad Air 2 is still showing shipping estimates of two to four days for online orders, while the iPad mini 3 seems to have greater availability.
