iOS 8 Adoption Sits at a Mere 47% Nearly Three Weeks After Release

It’s been almost three weeks since the release of Apple’s iOS 8 mobile operating system, and the adoption rate sits at a mere 47% of all iOS devices. The numbers, from Apple’s App Store support page, indicates iOS users may be wary of the bugs that have plagued the launch of iOS 8.

Adoption has been virtually stagnant over the past two weeks, as September 21 saw 46% of iOS devices running the new OS.

Just ahead of the official launch of iOS 8, Apple discovered a bug in HealthKit that required all HealthKit-enabled apps to be pulled from the App Store. A fix for the bug, via iOS 8.0.1, was soon released, but that update had a nasty side effect of disabling the cellular and Touch ID functionality on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets.

Those issues, and others discovered since the release of iOS 8.0.2 – which fixed the issues brought on by iOS 8.0.1 – may be discouraging iOS users from updating to Apple’s latest mobile OS. New issues, such as iCloud documents being deleted from iCloud Drive when a user performs a “Reset All Settings” on their device, issues with Bluetooth connections in vehicles, and slow Wi-Fi speeds and battery drain, have been reported since iOS 8.0.2 saw the light of day.

Apple has seeded iOS 8.1 to developers, and it reportedly fixes the Bluetooth pairing issues. The update should also include Apple Pay support, however, that likely won’t help drive iOS 8 adoption, as Apple Pay works only with the NFC-capable iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
