Groupon Launches Snap App – Pays Users Cash Back on Grocery Purchases

Deal site Groupon has launched a new app, “Snap.” The app pays user cash back for purchasing specific items when shopping at the grocery store.

After downloading Snap, users can immediately begin earning cash rebates for buying specially featured items each week, no matter which supermarket they shop at in the U.S. and Canada.

Once your balance has reached $20 or more, you can cash out.

Items range from name brands, such as $1 back on three pack of Clorox Wipes, to generic necessities such as a gallon of milk or bread. (I tried the app with a recent grocery receipt, and got a buck back for buying a loaf of store brand oatmeal bread.)

Simply snap a photo of your receipt, and then select the items you want to register that are listed on the receipt. Groupon says it processes the receipts within 48 hours, and users are sent a check once they reach the $20 minimum.

“Snap is the latest way that we’re helping people discover new brands and save money on the things they buy every day,” Groupon said in a press release We’re using the power of smartphones to make couponing easier and more convenient while paying people to shop. And to help celebrate the launch, we’re giving away a year of free groceries — a $13,000 value.”

Snap by Groupon is available for iOS and Android devices. For more information, and to download the app, visit the Snap website.
