Apple CEO Tim Cook Talks Security With Top Chinese Official Amid Hacking Claims

Apple CEO Tim Cook is reported to have met in Beijing with a top Chinese government on Wednesday to discuss user data security, reports Reuters. The meeting comes days after a Chinese web monitoring group, Greatfire.org, published a report saying Chinese iCloud.com users had been targeted by an attack seeking to access users’ private data stored on the service.

The group alleged that the Chinese government was involved in the hack, although the government has strongly denied any such involvement.

Greatfire reported on Tuesday that Apple appears to have rerouted user data to circumvent the attack.

Cook and Vice Premier Ma Kai met on Wednesday in Zhongnanhai, the Beijing complex housing China’s central government, and discussed “protection of users’ information” and “strengthening cooperation in information and communication fields,” reports Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency.

Apple issued a statement on Tuesday saying it was aware of the attacks, and also launched a new browser security guide on its website.
