An alleged iPhone 6 prototype is up for sale on auction site eBay. High bid is currently $94,100 USD, and climbing. (As of 11AM Easter time.) Auction photos show the device running a different version of iOS, one that looks similar to that of factory test mode, shown in previously leaked images of iPhone 6 prototypes.
TNW:
The California-based seller claims to have been sent the phone accidentally by Verizon, and says the red lightning port and lack of FCC certifications on the back verify the phone’s authentic Apple status. If so, they may run into trouble with Apple by the time their auction ends on October 9.
The seller states that they aren’t even sure if the “prototype” will take calls, and Apple could likely disable the device if it proves to be real.
TNW has contacted the seller for more information, and has also contacted Apple for official word on if this device is the real thing. So far, they’ve not hear anything back from either party. We’ll keep you posted.
