A new rumor suggests that the Apple Watch – set to debut in early 2015 – will begin production in January 2015, and Taiwan’s Quanta Computer will be the exclusive manufacturer of the wearable device.
Taiwan’s Apple Daily reports Quanta is preparing for the manufacture of the Apple Watch by hiring new employees, bringing its employee rolls to 4 million workers.
The terms of the deal are said to prevent Quanta from manufacturing any competing wearable devices for other companies.
While Apple showed off the new wearable at a September media event, it has kept many details of the device secret – offering measurements, the fact that the device will work with the companies upcoming Apple Pay system, and that it will offer a variety of third-party apps. The company has announced a starting price of $350 for the device.
