iPhone 6 Plus Teardown Shows Massive 2915 mAh Battery

Some things are cherished traditions, and the launch day teardown of a new iPhone is one the folks at iFixit hold near and dear to their hearts. Here’s what they found in the iPhone 6 Plus. (The iPhone 6 teardown is soon to follow.)

Taking apart the iPhone 6 Plus, the first thing that stands out is the massive battery, it comes in at 2915 mAh, that is almost twice the capacity of the iPhone 5s. SWEET!

Other notables include:

• Apple A8 APL1011 system-on-a-chip (SoC) processor (1GB Memory)
• An Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE modem
• A SKhynix H2JTDG8UD1BMS flash memory chip
• A Broadcom BCM5976 touchscreen controller
• An NXP 65V10 NFC chip for use with Apple Pay (Include secure element)
• An 8 MP (with 1.5µ pixels) ƒ/2.2 aperture rear-facing camera. The 6 Plus brings two new additions to the table: optical image stabilization, and “Focus Pixel” phase-detection autofocus.

iFixit gave the iPhone 6 Plus a repairability score of 7 out of 10, which is bump up from the iPhone 5s’ score of 6 out of 10. The differential in the score can be attributed to the absence of a cable connecting the Touch ID Home button to the Lightning port. (The cable could be easily torn if you weren’t careful opening the device.)
