iOS 8 Third-Party Keyboard Apps Take Top Spots in App Store Charts

As of yesterday’s iOS 8 release, users can now install third-party keyboards for use on their iOS devices. As of today, three of these iOS 8 custom keyboard apps – Swype, Flesky, and SwiftKey – all sit at the top of the iOS paid and free app charts in the U.S. and other countries.

MacRumors:

Within 24 hours of their debut, paid keyboards Swype and Fleksy climbed to the top two spots in the U.S. paid iOS app chart, displacing popular games such as Minecraft Pocket Edition and Five Nights at Freddy’s. On the free app chart, Swiftkey jumped to the number one spot, beating out the now freemium and very popular 1Password password manager and the newly launched Amazing Thief game.

As the new keyboards are certain to be benefiting from the iOS 8 first-day frenzy, we’ll keep an eye on the charts to see how the keyboard apps fare when it all begins to settle down. However, the apps’ quick jump to the top of the charts certainly indicates many users were looking forward to trying out something besides Apple’s default iOS keyboard.
