Apple on Monday released OS X bash update 1.0 for OS X Mavericks. The update fixes a vulnerability in the bash UNIX shell. The “Shellshock” security flaw was uncovered last week by security researchers. The exploit in the bash command shell in Linux and OS X could be used to deploy malicious code.
An Apple spokesperson said most OS X users were not at risk from the exploit, however the company would supply an update to patch the hole.
Apple has also released a fix for the exploit in OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion. A patch for OS X Yosemite will likely be available in the near future.
The three updates are available via Apple’s support pages at the links below, and should also be available soon via the Software Update menu in your desktop menu.
