A report today says Apple needs to obtain one more regulatory license to sell the iPhone 6 in China. State-run news agency Xinhua (via Reuters) reports the handset is currently being reviewed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The news agency says Apple needs a network access license to begin selling the device.
The news comes on the heels of a report yesterday which said the Chinese launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus may be pushed back to 2015 due to the requirement for regulatory licenses.
It’s currently not known if Apple will receive the final license in time for a 2014 launch. Talks are reported to be ongoing.
A delay could further damage Apple’s standing in the country, as it faces continued Government pressure, in the form of charges brought against Apple by the country’s state-controlled media.
Apple has reported increased revenue growth in China, and has plans to double its retail footprint in the coming years. Apple made sure that last year’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c both launched in China in the first wave of releases.
