Amazon has officially announced Kindle Unlimited, a new e-book and audiobook subscription service that offers unlimited access to over 600,000 Kindle e-book titles, along with access to thousands of Audible audiobooks for $9.99 a month. Content can be accessed on any Kindle device, or via the Kindle app on Macs, PCs, iOS and Android devices.
A quick look at the service shows such high-profile titles as The Hunger Games trilogy, the Harry Potter series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The service will include the Whispersync for Voice feature, which allows users to switch between reading and listening to a book, each picking up where you last left off.
Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial for the Kindle Unlimited service, which also includes a free three-month membership in the full Audible service, which offers more than 150,000 audiobooks. When the trial period ends, subscribers will pay $9.99 per month to access the Kindle Unlimited service, and can also choose to continue the full Audible membership for $14.95 per month.
