Rumor: Apple to Begin Production of 12-inch MacBook Air in Q3 2014

A new report claims Apple’s manufacturing partners will begin cranking out the long-rumored 12-inch MacBook Air sometime in the third quarter.

AppleInsider:

Citing the usual upstream supply chain sources, hit-or-miss Taiwanese publication DigiTimes reports Quanta Computer will begin mass production of the rumored 12-inch MacBook Air in quarter three, which technically starts in July.

The publication says Apple will make only internal changes – such as the battery and the internal layout – and will keep the current external look.

DigiTimes sources say they haven’t heard any rumblings about any changes to the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models.

The timing fits into the timeline from noted KGI Financial analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in April of this year. Kuo, who has a fairly solid track record when it comes to Apple predictions, said he expected Apple to launch a 12-inch model of the MacBook Air around the middle or end of the third quarter. (See roadmap above.)

Kuo also predicted the 12-inch model could be the first MacBook Air to include a Retina display.

And now, we wait.
