Apple has added two new locales to the Flyover feature in its iOS and OS X Mavericks Maps app. Tokyo, Japan and Zion National Park in Utah are the new additions. Flyover allows users to take a 3D look at various areas around the globe, zooming in to view buildings and other landmarks.
First introduced with iOS 6 and based on technology acquired from the purchase of C3 Technologies, Flyover is now available in 88 different locations across the world.
Apple is continually working to improve its Maps app, with some users reporting significant improvements in the the data the app uses, with errors being quickly fixed, while additional points of interest have been added.
Apple is expected to introduce new features to Maps in iOS 8, although they may not be present at launch. Transit navigation directions, and other improvements are reportedly in the works, but may not be available to uses until an update following the debut of iOS 8. Reports have also told of a new “City Tour” Flyover feature in both iOS 8’s and OS X Yosemite’s Maps apps, that allow users to experience a city’s points of interest via an automatic Flyover tour.
