Apple Prepping iOS 7.1.2 Update, Likely to Address Encryption and iMessage Issues

Apple appears to be working on a minor update to iOS 7.1. Devices identifying themselves as running iOS 7.1.2 have been showing up in some website’s logs the last week or so.

MacRumors:

Details on changes included in the update are currently unknown, but there are two issues likely to be addressed. One is a fix for an email attachment encryption issue disclosed several weeks ago. At the time the issue gained widespread publicity, Apple issued a statement indicating it was aware of the issue and that a fix would be included in a “future software update.”

The second issue that could be addressed is the iMessage issue that was recently aggravated by a server glitch at Apple. The issue affects users who move from an iPhone to another mobile platform, such as Android, and find that they are not receiving text messages from iPhone users. Apple’s iMessage servers continue to believe that the users’ phone number is still attached to an iPhone, and continues to attempt to route the text messages via the iMessage servers. Those problems have reportedly been fixed, and Apple says it will be including “an additional bug fix in a future software update.”

iOS 7.1.2 would be the first iOS update since Apple’s promise of the above two fixes, so it can be expected that the issues will be addressed in the update.
