Ads for a local tire store will break up the talk shows you’re listening to on iTunes Radio, if a new report proves to be correct. The Information says Apple is planning on offering “locally targeted advertising” to users via iTunes Radio later this year. The report also says Apple is planning on working with “broadcast radio stations” to increase the amount of non-music content it offers on the platform.
9to5Mac notes the additional content would possibly consist of several local NPR stations as well as sports content from ESPN.
Content would include sports-focused programs such as ESPN’s SportsCenter All Night, The Herd, Mike & Mike, and more.
Earlier this year, Apple added a single NPR streaming station to iTunes Radio, the first non-music channel introduced on the service. With the addition of the new non-music content, iTunes Radio will support 42 local NPR channels from around the country.
Apple’s new moves are part of a continuing effort by the company to differentiate iTunes Radio from its streaming competitors.
