Apple is planning on holding an “enormous” iPhone event in its retail stores later this week. The new initiative is designed to boost sales of the iPhone, and will kick off May 8th.
Citing “a source with knowledge of the initiative,” 9to5Mac reports Apple will be contacting upgrade-eligible iPhone users with older iPhone models via email to come into their local Apple Store to update to a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c…
Apple will also continue to offer its in-store iPhone hardware trade-in program that allows customers to trade-in an old iPhone for a gift card that can be used toward the purchase of a new model phone.
The event will be held in numerous stores across the United States, and Apple is preparing for a boost in visitors to its locations. Apple will brief Apple Retail management on the initiative on Tuesday, says the source.
Apple’s new Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores, Angela Ahrendts, is beginning her first full week at Apple, and will likely be overseeing this promotion with the aid of other Apple retail executives.
