Report: Apple May Raise The Price of the iPhone 6 by $100

Apple is reported to be negotiating with its carriers to raise the price of the upcoming iPhone 6 by $100. The claim by Peter Misek (Via StreetInsider), says carriers are resisting the price increase, but they may not be able to fight the price bump due to expectations for the new handset.

StreetInsider, via MacRumors:

“The possibility may at first seem far-fetched in light of investor concerns regarding possible carrier subsidy and handset price cuts due to smartphone saturation and lack of differentiation,” Misek comments. “But we think this general lack of differentiation could be the reason why Apple may be able to get a price increase. Carriers realize that the iPhone 6 will likely be the only headline-worthy high-end phone launched this year and that they will lose subs if they do not offer it.”

The new iPhone 6 is expected to debut later this year, and will possibly feature two larger screen sizes, with a 4.7-inch model debuting first, with a 5.5-inch version soon to follow. The next-generation iPhone may also be thinner, will likely include the A8 processor, and an improved camera.
