Friday saw Apple resting its case against rival Samsung in their latest patent court clash. The company’s counsel rested, following the testimony of an expert witness who said Samsung should be made to pay a full $2.91 billion in damages.
As CNET reports, Quantitative Economic Solutions economist Christopher Vellturo told the court today that Apple’s claim to over $2 billion is valid based on estimated profits lost to Samsung’s infringing devices as well as royalties owed to Apple for use of its protected software designs.
John Hauser, another Apple expert witness, testified earlier last week that Samsung’s mobile devices wouldn’t have been as attractive to the buying public if they didn’t include features that Apple had created, such as “Slide to unlock.” Apple’s experts depicted Samsung as a desperate company, stealing Apple’s ideas when it failed to come up with any compelling ideas of its own.
Samsung’s attorneys will have the chance to present Samsung’s side of things this week, presenting its own evidence and expert testimony to rebut Apple’s presentation of things.
