A report from The Verge says Microsoft’s special cloud and mobile-focused event in San Francisco set for March 27th will be the site of the introduction of Microsoft Office for the iPad.
The event will mark the first press event hosted by new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
“Nadella is expected to discuss Microsoft’s “mobile first, cloud first” strategy, and there will be some major news ahead of the company’s Build conference in early April. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans tell The Verge that the event will mark the introduction of Office for iPad.”
It’s well known that Microsoft has been working on the software for quite awhile now, and even introduced a version of Office for the iPhone in June 2013. The Verge reports that the iPad version of Office will require an Office 365 subscription for editing of documents. Creation and editing of documents will be fully supported for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. The overall design and feature set is said to be similar to the iPhone version.
Microsoft launched a free Mac version of its OneNote Office app on Monday.
