A new report says Apple manufacturing partner Pegatron is gearing up to start production on the new iPhone 6 in the second quarter of this year. The report comes from the Commercial Times [Google Translate], via MacRumors.
Pegatron is reportedly opening new factory space, and is recruiting new workers in China to meet orders for the new handset. Pegatron has been responsible for production of the iPad mini, and the iPhone 5c. Apple’s main manufacturing partner, Foxconn, has assembled the lion’s share of the iPhone 5s devices.
While the report said production would begin in the second quarter, it did not report an expected release date for the device, (Apple typically releases new handsets in the fall), or how many workers would be employed, nor the number of the new handsets the company would be manufacturing.
Apple supplier Hon Hai (Foxconn) will continue to be the other primary assembler of the iPhone.
